Tech-X Corporation Releases VORPAL v5.2

New release allows VORPAL users to better solve problems

Boulder, CO – April 12, 2012 -Tech-X Corporation of Boulder, Colorado, announced the release of VORPAL v5.2. VORPAL allows researchers to solve the most challenging problems in electromagnetics and electrostatics, in either the presence or absence of matter, using sophisticated solvers as well as both fluid and particle representations of matter. New features include:

VORPAL Engine:

1.      A new particle post-processing tool to select subsets of particle data and place particles into bins for the generation of histograms.

2.      A new history speciesDataOnPlane that allows tracking of particle data on a moving plane.

3.      A new history speciesNumPhysical that records to the total number of physical particles in a species. This history works for both fixed and variable weight particles.

4.      Expansion of the Advanced Examples to include examples of electromagnetic, electrostatic, and particle simulations in cylindrical coordinates.

5.      The addition of port macros making it easier to set up outgoing and wave launching boundaries.

VorpalComposer Graphical User Interface:

1.      Vector and magnitude variables now available to plot

2.      Log-scale color tables

3.      Log-scale Axes in some tools (1D, phase-space)

4.      Overlaid 1D plots

5.      Automatic 3D cylindrical visualization (with 3 new examples)

6.      Paint Fields tool that computes the value of the selected field component at the grid boundary surface and colors the surface polygon to that color

7.      Ability to refresh visualization display while simulation is running

8.      Improved controls for 1D visualizations

9.      Fixed-width fonts in the editor (for Python files)

10.   Fully native Windows application (console windows do not open in GUI)

11.   All text files are now searchable in the editor

12.   Automatic VisIt font resizing

13.   Ability to set axis labels & units

14.   Ability to control axis scaling in 3D plots

15.   Better automatic detection of extents in “Field Analysis” data view

16.   “Phase Space” data view allows 3 concurrent plots

17.   Friendlier menu item labels

18.   Improved detection and display of unsaved changes in editor files

19.   Traditional Mandarin translation
